Settle For Less

Objects of desire
Beauties best dressed
Chase ‘til you tire
Then settle for less

Objects we require?
Objects at all?
Forget yourself before you fall

Thorns with petals
Anger hard and love too frail
One that settles
Because his strength has failed

Subscribe to the norm
We live it so well
Look from afar
It’s the future you abandoned
One we could not foretell

How can you leave her?
The one you breathe for?

Abandon pursuit of
The one you dream of?

Then settle for a settler
Who settled for you

The Questions Deep Within

I long for more than I’ve made for myself
More than I deserve
More than I feel, more than I see
All that’s gone unheard.

I long for more than my hands can craft
More than I’ll ever be
More than I know, more than I dream
The things unforeseen.

I long to travel the course of her mind
Trace the thoughts to better days
Sit in silence with open ears
Hear the prayers that she prays.

She asks me why I hide myself
From God and man alike
From future fears, from mother’s tears
From the shining light.

I long to talk to God and ask
What made me so often look to Him last?

I long to ask and ask again
The questions burning deep within.

The Game

It eats at my soul
The cannibalistic nature of a self
Destruction and reform they call it
Destroy and destroy again

Red eyes to absolve my sin
Or I wish it were so
Regret tinged breaths
Shells and masks and shelves

The plague spreads
Or have all been previously infected?
My wound is yours
Our injury: my fault

Mingle amongst the guests
Dressed up in costumes much like my own
Share in the play
Share in the death

Bite your own hand if it feeds you
Break the finger that guides you
Hide the light or hide the black
Depending on where you are

The shadow stands so tall
Only cast by the sun at my back
Turn around you fool

Thoughts and Actions

Let us stare.
At a blank wall.
Until our eyes dry out.
Until we recognize that the paint is not dry and we can still change what we perceive.
Give us time to think.
To stare at a blank wall and recognize that the paint is dry but it is not the wall that needs changing.
See the hammer.
Do you toss it aside?
Do you break down the wall?
Which is wise?
The time has been poured.
Will you realize before time runs out
That the wall is a floor?
It is everything on which you stand.
On what do you stand?
Time spills at your feet and you haven't the decency to use it well.
